That one minute of silence...

That video I posted earlier made me think and feel a lot of things.

Suddenly, that one minute of silence is all I can think about... How noisy it was, how filled with meaning, how these two souls communicated far beyond words, because words, in these cases, are not needed. What would they talk about really? What they've been doing for the last 23 years?! The magic would be gone and the moment lost in translation.

I have always felt that a comfortable silence between two people is a solid testimony of their intimacy. Let's face it... Silences are not easy and they can fill up a space with such heavy feelings of obligation and awkwardness... In my relationships I have always searched for these moments, the silent ones, when there's really no need to speak.

In this day and era, with the constant bombardment of information, it seems to be ever so difficult to find these moments of silence. People tend to fill in the blanks and talk about everything and anything before letting the silence overcome. It's the same process when we are alone... Nowadays you rarely see someone sitting by themselves without a phone, tablet, book or newspaper. We seem to run from silence even when we are alone, maybe too afraid to face our own thoughts... I mean what would we discover if we would be left alone with our minds? Well, we might discover what we really want, we might feel our fears and let them take over for a moment and also, we might feel the strength to face them and move forward. I have always took pride in the fact that I love to be alone. But I too lean on these emotional canes to face everyday life and everyday's silence. We should all take a minute of silence with ourselves each day, just one minute, 60  lousy seconds of our busy day to communicate truly with ourselves. We would probably be happier...

And while we're at it, maybe we could also take a moment to look around and appreciate life. You know how lucky we are? We are alive, we live in a crazy world, that's for sure!, but we are still lucky because we wake up everyday and have the freedom to live our lives as we please (there's a lot of people in this world who don't have this!!). We take so many minutes of our days to complain and none to be grateful. This really needs to change...
