As I've told you before, I'm an avid reader. Often juggling two books at the same time or jumping from novel to novel according to my mood. I'm a firm believer that one should not force a book on oneself. If it isn't working, if you don't feel the story, put it aside... it's not time to read it.

So I'm always buying books, everywhere, especially airports. Don't ask me why, but I always find good books at airports....

The last book I bought was at Orly, Paris. I was waiting for my flight, it was snowing and really cold, and I still had a couple of hours to kill. So I stepped into the bookstore and started to scan the very small English section. On the bottom shelf there was this small book, "Gone Girl". I'm a girl that judges, at first, a book by its cover. And the cover, although not that special, caught my eye. After reading the raving reviews from the NY Times and company, and the back cover, I bought it! And even though I had already a book on my bag, I sat at Starbucks and introduced myself to the characters of Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

I'm not going to tell you the story! I'm just saying this... It's been a while since I've read SUCH A GOOD BOOK! From the writing, to the construction of the plot, to the amazing twists, I mean... it's just a great book. The best thing? The emotional ride, definitely. We start by loving both characters, than hating one and loving the other, suddenly we hate the one we've loved and we love the one we've hated! It's brilliant!! Nothing is what it seems and the story is so well told that you go on this journey without even noticing it. And the end, keeping up the theme of the book, is exactly what you are not expecting!

People of the world... READ THIS BOOK! That's all I'm saying!

When I was little, my mom used to say something like this: A rose has to suffer to be beautiful.
As a child, I didn't fully understand what she meant, but, as I grew in my own skin as woman, I began to understand what she really meant by that odd statement: women do suffer to look beautiful!

I mean... where should we start? We wax, we tweeze, we wear dangerous high heels, we go on crazy diets to fit that amazing pair of jeans, we wear make up everyday, we... well, we suffer to look beautiful. The standards are just impossible, let's face it, but we keep on trying to look as glamorous,  thin and as beautifully as the women who populate magazines, TV shows, movies and blogs. So why bother? Well, because it's worth it. It's worth it when you look yourself at the mirror and the fact that you are all waxed, make-up ready and wearing a glorious outfit inspired by someone you saw on a magazine makes you feel damn confident. Yes, it is a question of confidence!

Let me tell you a little secret... women don't dress for men, they dress for other women. Because a man, well most straight men, can't really appreciate your shoes or your new lipstick, whereas a woman will immediately notice them when she walks by.

It's strange how our confidence can be born of such trivial, even superficial things, but I'm the first to admit it: women are a strange species. I don't even think we can fully understand one another!
And, at the end of the day, I don't think all these things are that superficial anyhow...

Back to the confidence issue... Well, speaking from personal experience, I will tell you this: I am my most self when I am in full woman mode. I feel more comfortable in my own skin when I look at the mirror and see my carefully made-up face, when I hear the sound of my heels clicking away on the pavement, when I'm ready to face the world. Yes, I do love to stay in my pj's, no make-up on, just me and a blanket and some warm socks. But girls, when I look at the mirror in those days I don't really feel it. Do you?

We are not what we wear. We aren't. But what we wear and how we choose to look to others is a vital part of our existence, confidence (once again!) and personality. So we suffer, because it's worth it! Because all those little things makes us confident, powerful and amazing!

I should probably tell you a few things about me... just so you know what to expect!
So, here goes, a list of what I like!

- Books!!

 I'm an avid reader, I always have a book around. Reading is a way of living other lives, of meeting new people and new worlds. I find it liberating and amazing how one book can transport us to another universe. I like to reread books. There's characters that stay with me long after I've finished reading about their lives and I sometimes feel the need to go back to them.

 - Fashion!!

 Fashion is not only my job (I work in PR) but also one of my greatest passions. I devour fashion magazines, blogs, books, you name it. I'm sucker for beautiful things, I see fashion as a work of art, as the most wonderful way of expressing oneself to the world.

 - Photography & Images!!

 I'm a collector of images and photos. Yes, the cliche is true, sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words and I lean on them to express myself often.

 - Food!!

 I love to eat, I love to seat at a big table, full of friends and food and wine. One guilty pleasure that bring happiness to my life.

 - My friends & Family!!

 Who are you without friends and family?

 - Love!!

 Love is what makes the world go around (I know, I'm full of cliches today!). But I do, truly, believe in this. Love makes life easier and harder at the same time, it restores balance and sometimes it destroys it... its duality has always been one of my favorite thinking subjects. I'm romantic and a believer in love. 

- My cat!!

 Yes, yes, my wonderful cat Jackie. To you, she may be just another black cat, to me she's just amazing!

 - Thinking & Writing!!

 I have a full mind, believe me. I'm always thinking of something or various somethings at the same time. Writing is a way of emptying my mind, a way to express and simplify my thoughts. It's also a way of expressing certain feelings I do not wish to say out loud. Writing them makes them real, but only to a certain point, only to the one who reads it (most often, just me!).

 I guess this is a more or less comprehensive list for now, which will help you make the decision: Do I want to keep reading this blog?
