The Luxury Rental Girlfriend - The New York Observer
Did you read it? I did, more than once, and you know what? I was shocked! Shocked that I never thought of the possibility of a website with the purpose of serving as an "everyday guide to your escort", but mostly I was shocked because I can understand where some of these men are coming from...
If we think for a minute like a single, successful guy, who is not emotionally available, who does not have the time or the inclination to be in a relationship, wouldn't you choose the Perpetual Girlfriend over the Training Wife? Let's be honest, we all know (women included) what it's like to be in a place where the last things on our mind are long walks hand in hand on the beach, or romantic dinners with a view or even breakfast with someone! So for these types of men the choice is easy as pie. Why wouldn't they spend their hard working money on a girl who can give them everything they want and leave when they say? Why trouble dating and getting to know a woman and, ultimately, fool her? It's honest, when you really think about it. At least it's all out in the open, there's no game, there's no decoding of a certain comment or a facial expression... It is what it is. And it's not just and only about sex. There's the GFE (Girlfriend Experience) where most of the times there's no sex involved. There are many, many reasons to justify why man look for escorts. I can think of a few: lack of time and inclination for a relationship (as previously mentioned), but also social awkwardness or ineptitude, secret sexual fantasies (of course), secret fantasies period, mummy issues, and so on. It all comes down to a need. A deep need that can be better satisfied by a professional. It's easier, effective (for the moment at least) and under control.
But, at the same time, when I discover there's a website where man dedicate their time, and some even make it a mission (they call themselves "hobbyists"), to rate women, to comment profoundly (and apparently poetically too) on their performance, it just makes me uncomfortable, to say the least. I mean... come on you guys?!?! Seriously?!? I can see the whole practicability of the matter and also, I admit, it's just customer's smartness in the end, but there's something just wrong about it... shady and... I really don't know how to put it, but the word "meat" comes to mind.
And so I read the article again and try to put myself on everyone's shoes. I can understand most of them. Except the married man... I'm sorry, but cheating is just plain wrong and bad on my book! But there are reasons which I can understand, that justify all these people's actions. And like any other market, I guess this one too thrives on demand and supply. And as long as there's demand, there will be supply, and as long as there's supply, there will be demand.
Hmm... I guess it's quite simple in the end, no?
